Kongo Travel, a proud partner of AgroTour International, is committed to promoting sustainable ecotourism as part of its mission to contribute to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). This year, AgroTour International, a signature event in Africa’s agricultural and ecotourism sectors, held its 7th edition in Arusha, Tanzania, from August 5 to 9, 2024. The event brought together entrepreneurs, farmers, investors, and policymakers from across Africa to discuss innovative and sustainable agrobusiness solutions for the continent.
About AgroTour International
AgroTour International is a unique program of scientific, touristic, and recreational activities centered on agribusiness. It was initiated in 2017 by Hope Land Congo to network agricultural value chain actors and facilitate professional integration within the sector, aiming to reverse Africa’s heavy reliance on food imports, which amount to approximately $35 billion annually. The program also focuses on the continent’s immense agricultural potential, capable of feeding 9 billion people by 2050, despite 65% of its arable land remaining uncultivated.
The event’s primary goals are to gather, educate, guide, and support African agribusiness actors in entrepreneurship, equipping them with innovative approaches to address food security challenges while reducing unemployment in their communities.
Day 1: A Journey into Sustainable and Innovative Agriculture
AgroTour International 2024 kicked off with a focus on innovative and sustainable agriculture. The first day, held on August 5, began with a guided tour of Caroline Kaaya’s exemplary farm in Kichangani, Nduruma Village. Caroline’s innovative agricultural practices, particularly her cultivation of sweet potatoes, maize, and beans, inspired the participants. Many expressed interest in acquiring her seeds and techniques to replicate her success back home.
This day was not only about exploring local agricultural excellence but also about setting the tone for the rest of the event by fostering collaboration and learning among entrepreneurs.
Day 2: Official Launch of the 7th Edition
The official launch of AgroTour International took place on August 6 at the East African Community (EAC) Secretariat in Arusha. The event was inaugurated by key figures including Mr. Franck Mmbando from the EAC, Ms. Janice Kimaro, President of the East African Women in Business Platform (EAWiBP), and Mr. Yannick Nkayilu Salomon, Coordinator of Hope Land Congo Canada.

Day 4: Visit to NANE NANE Festival
On the fourth day, participants visited the renowned NANE NANE Festival, a key event showcasing innovations in agriculture, livestock, and fishing. The festival allowed the AgroTour participants to explore the latest agricultural technologies and sustainable practices, offering a wealth of opportunities for collaboration and growth.
The day began with a masterclass on agricultural marketing strategies led by Paul Martin Mutanda. Following the session, participants toured the festival, where they interacted with exhibitors and explored potential business opportunities.
